PADUCAH, KY.  April 5, 2007 - American Quilter's Society (AQS) announced today a third international quilting event will debut in Des Moines, Iowa, at the Iowa Events Center, October 8 - 11, 2008. The AQS Quilt Expo - Des Moines will feature quilt exhibits, classes in the AQS School of Quiltmaking, and a merchant mall with all of the latest quiltmaking products and tools. Workshops will begin October 8. This will be an annual event in Des Moines.

The Des Moines venue provides another opportunity for AQS to promote the art of quiltmaking in another area of the country, says Meredith Schroeder, president of American Quilter's Society. The beautiful, new Iowa Events Center and its accessibility were major factors in selecting this location for our new event.

We are especially pleased to collaborate with the Des Moines Area Quilters Guild, and to host their annual show as part of our Quilt Expo. Attendees will be treated to nearly 1,000 quilts on exhibit at this event. The Quilt Expo will feature a contest for quilters worldwide, with $10,000 being awarded to the Best of Show quilt. This will be a consumer show, open to the general public. Workshops, conducted by an all-star group of leading quilting instructors, will present workshops and lectures on traditional and new, innovative quiltmaking techniques.
