Diamonds Among the Scraps:
Facet #2

Ready for the second facet of creating your stunning quilt? Lots of sewing but simple 4-patch and 16-patches. Accuracy is important so make sure your units “measure up” to sizes given. Here we go –

Aligning long edges, sew together a dark print 1-3/4” x 22” strip and a light print 1-3/4” x 22” strip to make a strip set. Repeat with remaining dark and light print strips to make a total of 33 strip sets.

Press seam allowances toward dark print in each set. Cut strip sets into 1-3/4” wide segments for a total of 388.

Lay out two different segments and sew together to make a 4-patch unit. The unit should measure 3” square. Repeat to make a total of 194 4-patch units.

Sew together two 4-patch units in pairs with dark squares always at top right and bottom left position.

Then join the pairs to make a 16-patch unit making sure dark squares are always at top right and bottom left position within the 16-patch. These units should measure 5-1/2” square.

Repeat to make a total of 39 16-patch units. Note: You will have 38 4-patch units remaining. Save them!
